Description

Health Promotion and Wellness (HPW), a unit within Penn State Student Affairs, is seeking an Associate Director to provide creative and strategic leadership to support the health and well-being of undergraduate, graduate and professional students. The mission of Health Promotion and Wellness is to cultivate a community that supports student success, well-being and the pursuit of lifelong health. The Associate Director position reports to the director of HPW. Penn State Health Promotion and Wellness is committed to the development of a safe and inclusive environment that fosters academic, social, cultural, and personal well-being. 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing oversight for the daily operation of HPW, including alcohol and cannabis education services, nutrition services, and wellness services
  • Supervising three assistant directors and one dietitian
  • Providing leadership and direction for culturally responsive health promotion services, educational programs, peer education programs, outreach and social marketing efforts
  • Assisting with ongoing strategic planning efforts
  • Leading needs assessment and evaluation efforts
  • Planning and delivering a range of health promotion activities, including new initiatives for resilience, mindfulness and meditation


Requirements

Typical Education and Experience Requirements:

Typically requires a Master's degree or higher plus five or more years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Additional Preferred Education, Experience, or Certifications:

  • Knowledge of and experience with community development approaches and advocacy in public health
  • Knowledge of and experience implementing initiatives consistent with the socio-ecological model
  • Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) or similar relevant professional credential

Additional Required Competencies:

  • A commitment to working with diverse populations is essential
  • Ability to work within secure and confidential student information
  • Ability to maintain high standards for theory-based and evidence-based practice set by relevant professional organizations
  • Knowledge of and experience with evaluation and assessment is essential
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and organizational skills are essential
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ethical decision-making and the ability to be a flexible and collaborative team member
