About this role

Financial Crime, Alternatives Associate, Investments

BlackRock's Global Compliance Department protects BlackRock's reputation and provides advice to the business focused on ensuring the protection of our client's best interests.  The department is a dynamic environment with the team focused on understanding evolving business strategy, challenging and advising on the impact of regulation in our business, with the objective of:

  • Actively participating in business decisions to champion our clients' interests and assist the business in translating Compliance into their daily work and decision making;
  • Cultivating and enhancing BlackRock's compliance culture;
  • Providing thought leadership on the impact and implementation of regulation to our business and to the market; and
  • Developing and fostering excellence within the Compliance team.

Job Purpose:

This role is part of the Global Financial Crime Team based in New York, responsible for AMRS implementation of strategic priorities as it relates to Financial Crime Alternative compliance initiatives in the Americas and globally where needed.  

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Assist with the management of anti-money laundering, sanctions, bribery and corruption, and fraud risk related to investment activity by BlackRock funds
  • Partner with key stakeholders including business, operations, risk management, legal and compliance to conduct due diligence on transactions and associated parties in the Alternatives business (e.g., Private Equity, Hedge Fund of Funds, Real Estate, Infrastructure, etc.)
  • Assist with reviewing pre-trade controls related to compliance with sanctions law and other types of financial crime related restrictions (e.g., cannabis)
  • Support financial crime monitoring and testing activities related to key service providers including fund transfer agents, distribution partners, and business partners
  • Leverage due diligence tools and engage with third-party providers to identify potential risks posed by alternatives and direct private transactions and associated parties, including by assessing various information sources and negative media alerts from screenings
  • Provide financial crime related advice to operations teams involved in the onboarding of clients and investors.
  • Perform documentation reviews on investors and transactions in the Alternative Business
  • Support the Americas regional leadership team in the escalation of higher risk maters to among others the Reputational Risk Committee
  • Support regional, product, and business line risk assessments
  • Assist with meeting regulatory requirements related to private funds established in the Americas region
  • Undertake governance and management reporting
  • Provide training on and support the implementation of policies and procedures related to alternative and direct private transactions
  • Work within a global team and communicate effectively to members of that team
